Shortly after the Pistons season was ended at the hands of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, head coach, President and Grand Poobah Stan Van Gundy suggested to the media that star center Andre Drummond would be open to shooting free-throws underhanded during the 2016-17 season.
From an ESPN.com article:
I was dubious of SVG’s claim since we all know of Drummond’s history and his reaction to the mere suggestion he attempt his shots from the charity stripe Rick Barry style.
We are talking about a petulant child who attempted to attack a fan on the baseline for raising the possibility that Drummond attempt “granny-style” free-throws during a game. And we might have had Malice at the Palace 2 if were not for Reggie Jackson and Steve Blake holding Drummond back.
Furthermore, Palace officials and Auburn Hills police officers have told us that yelling to Drummond that he should attempt to improve his 35% percentage by shooting underhanded free-throws will get the offending fan BANNED FROM THE PALACE OF AUBURN HILLS FOR LIFE.
Not just for Pistons games, but for Beyonce and Rascal Flatts concerts as well.
Hell, I Periscoped one such exchange and Pistons director of security Jerry Hendon ripped my iPhone out of my hand in an attempt to squash the evidence.
So I took it with a silo of salt when Van Gundy went on his offseason tour with the media and raised the possibility that his soon-to-be max-contract player would be open to this old-school approach.
With that backstory, I give you this Twitter interaction that Drummond had with a fan LAST NIGHT ….
Yep. Sure sounds like a guy who is ready to humble himself, give Rick Barry a call and attempt underhanded free-throws.
Or, he is the same exact MAN CHILD who responded to this suggestion by attacking this particular fan’s weight.
